This Monday, While most of us were still shaking off our lingering NYE hangovers, (What? Isn’t that what you were doing?), Joel Zimmerman was staging a decidedly un-hostile takeover of Sin City. The Mau5 man was in town celebrating a trio of events: his 31st birthday, the launch of his residency at Vegas mega-club XS and, uh, Deadmau5 day. That was officially Tuesday, January 2, as proclaimed by Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman. So yeah, he’s kind of a big deal.

Sources in Vegas report that Zimmerman, “arrived at the nightclub just before midnight, where the XS staff took over the mic to lead thousands of club goers in serenading him with ‘Happy Birthday.’ Twenty beautiful cocktail servers marched on stage with a five-tier cake.”

Strange, that sounds almost exactly like our evening. Oh wait. It doesn’t. Not at all.

In Vegas, the party went off with myriad confetti explosions, many popped bottles of champagne and thousands of fans getting down until the early hours of the morning. Deadmau5’s XS residency runs throughout 2012.
