DJ-ing has historically been an expensive hobby to take on, requiring a hefty investment in physical equipment and industry software. But for those of us interested in casually learning the basics before making the leap into more professional grade equipment, the software options have become pretty accessible. The iPad now offers djay, an app with the usual features – left and right decks, a cross-fader, and pitch faders in addition to a smooth import of tracks (from your iTunes library) into the decks. Other features allow some advanced options – equalizing, looping, pre-listening – on top of the basic mixing. Best of all, djay is available for only $20.
