Very seldom, if ever, does an artist flat out tell you their music sucks. Well, Grimes is not your run-of-the-mill musician. In fact, she’s quite the outlier. Following her highly acclaimed album Visions, Grimes scrapped her subsequent album last year stating that the material, “sucked, so I threw it out and started again.” This may have been due to the mixed reactions to “Go,” a popish track she released that was initially intend for Rihanna.

However, at least one gem shined through the sludge that Grimes thought she should share. Taken from her “lost album,” “REALiTi” is a slice of synth-pop heaven. Grimes states that “This song was never finished. its a demo from ~ the lost album ~, recorded early 2013. I lost the ableton file, so its not mixed or mastered. I tried to doctor the mp3 into a listenable state, but it was poorly recorded in the first place and never meant to be heard by anyone, so its a bit of a mess haha.”

The "REALiTi" video, debuted on March 8, is the most “normal” video Grimes has released to date. No desert, no creepy slow-mo shots and no costumes straight out of Tekken. Shot during her Asia tour in March 2013, the video shows Grimes in a more — for lack of a better word — human light. Whether or not you prefer her departure from trippy video aesthetics, one thing we can all agree on is that Grimes is back and as great as ever.
