The Atlanta-based trio, Watch the Duck, has released their newest EP, “Anatidaephobia” (the serious yet very unreal fear of always having a duck watching you somewhere, somehow) and it's oozing with promise of innovative sounds and great dance music. The entire EP is classified as trapstep, but its sounds go beyond the limits of genre labels. The first track, “Lost in It,” is exemplary of the release’s smooth mending of energies as Watch the Duck gives us a starlight-resonating beats with powerful and in-your-face vocals and lyrics. Even Trinidad James makes an appearance on the EP’s following track, “Round-Here Dreams,” helping the trio spread an unfiltered love letter to their hearts’ homes, the ATL. However, no matter dirty the south gets with that track, you’re taken on an unexpected, but welcomed, shuttle to Motown alla trapstep. The soul in the vocals take you back in time until the smooth yet forceful drops force you into the future. “Poppin’ Off”, their awesomely gritty break out hit from last year, is up next. We’re taken back to an overwhelming sense of twilight and lightness as “Anatidaephobia” rounds out with “Freedomville” with vocals and lyrics so raw that it’d be impossible to be heard as “blah blah blah,” as the song suggests. Make sure to pick up the EP on iTunes!
