Top Tracks of 2011
2011 ain't over until the fat lady sings on a sick remix of your favorite club banger, (okay not really), but we love making lists so we just went ahead and an assembled our top tracks of the year a bit early. Withouth further ado, and in no particular order, here are the 18 songs that made us dance harder, (and better, and faster, and stronger), than all the rest in 2011.
Deadmau5, ‘Aural Psynapse’: This seven-minute. thirty-second epic began showing up in sets near the tail end of Deadmau5’ already legendary Meowington Hax tour, and had already become a major fan favorite by the time it was officially released in November.
Dada Life, ‘White Noise/Red Meat’: Sweden electro house duo Dada Life blew up (like you thought they would) on the restrained (kind of) power of this pulsing bass club favorite.
Skrillex, ‘First of the Year (Equinox)’: The dub prince of EDM blew minds around the world with this playful, frenetic beat throwdown and scared the shit out of us with the song’s accompanying video.
Avicii, ‘Levels’: With this Etta James-sampling club banger, Avicii scored a number one hit in his home country of Sweden and hit the top ten charts in nearly a dozen other parts of the globe. The guy is next level, we say.
Porter Robinson, ‘Spitfire’: The title track from Robinson’s debut EP demonstrates why Tiesto chose the white hot 19-year-old dub newbie to be his opener on last fall’s College Invasion tour.
Steve Aoki and Tiesto, ‘Tornado’: This genre-crossing superstar collaboration pulsates with Tiesto’s trademark sinewy trance and Aoki’s trademark blow your F-ing head off production style.
Nervo feat. Steve Aoki and Afrojack, ‘We’re All No One’: The ladies of Nervo get a little help from Aoki and Afrojack on this moody, multi-movement fearsome foursome collabo track.
Kaskade, ‘Eyes (feat. Mindy Gledhill)’: Kaskade rounds out a banner year with this pretty, soaring house anthem from his Fire and Ice LP.
Kraddy, ‘Android Porn’: West coast deep bass artist (and former Glitch Mob member) Kraddy drops it low and keeps it super grimy on the glitch-ey debut single from his Black Box LP. The video might inspire dreams of both the naughty and nightmarish varieties.
Nero, ‘Welcome Reality’: An insane, intergalactic high speed space ship ride through a post-apocalyptic, bass-friendly universe. And that’s all we have to say about that.
Destructo, ‘Technology’: We’re amped to hear Destructo spin this single during January’s three day electro party cruise Holy Ship! And oh yeah, he also organized the event. Because he has the technology. (Sorry).
Dillon Francis, ‘I.D.G.A.F.O.S.’: Mad Decent moombahton scion Dillon Francis continues his rocket-fast rise on the power of this playfully hard/soft, (and dare we say quite pretty), single. And just so you know, the title stands for ‘I Don’t Give A F*ck Or Sh*t.’
Rusko, ‘Everyday’: Rusko exerts a massive amount of crowd control over audiences during his epic sets, and nothing got us higher or made us drop it lower than ‘Everyday.’
Pretty Lights, "I Know the Truth": And the truth is that we’ve had this primal jam on repeat since its summer release.
Major Lazer, ‘Original Don’: Just when you thought nothing could match Pon De Floor….
SBTRKT, ‘Wildfire (feat. Little Dragon)’: SBTRKT gets sexy with a little help from our indie crush Little Dragon.
Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano feat. Busta Rhymes, ‘C’Mon (Catch ‘em by Surprise)’ Remix: Yeah, there were a lot of people involved in this remix of the Tiësto vs. Diplo track ‘C’Mon (Catch ‘em by Surprise)’, and the resulting single is a testament to a the fact that all those people are F-ing rad.
Afrojack, Lionheart: Afrojack gets aggressive (we would expect nothing less) on this melodically rich hit single.
