Since its inception in 2009, Sudbeat Music has stayed true to label founder Hernan Cattaneo’s vision: To champion vibrant progressive house music with melody, groove and soul. The Sudbeat catalog features quality releases from some of the pillars of today’s progressive scene such as Danny Howells, Nick Warren, and Cattaneo himself alongside some rising young talent like Henry Saiz, Guy J, and Marc Marzenit.

Berliner Marc Poppcke caught Cattaneo’s ear last year with “Never Go Back,” a haunting, menacing piece he co-produced with Max von Valentiner and released on his Crossfrontier Audio imprint. Poppcke then submitted several tracks to Cattaneo along with a wishlist of remixers, and the end result is the dynamic, genre-bending package of “Displayed Emotions” and “History Repeating.”

Poppcke is a surprising addition to the Sudbeat roster considering his introspective, brooding body of work to date including releases on labels like Freerange, Night Drive, and Ostwind. “History Repeating” and “Displayed Emotions,” however reveal a newfound peak time aggression that is consistent with the Sudbeat ethos. The detail and subtlety of the eerie mood and crackling textures set the slow burning “Displayed Emotions” apart while “History Repeating” is a supercharged slice of punishing prog with an acid twist.

Dosem enjoyed an enormous 2011, remixing for labels like Hope, Tronic, and Bedrock and he picks up right where he left off by delivering a dazzling, euphoric take on “Displayed Emotions.” The Catalan producer twists the arpeggio of the original around on itself atop a bed of soaring pads to create a breakdown for the ages. Malta’s Deepfunk delivers two interpretations of “History Repeating”- the summery Sunset Mix and the clubbier Night Mix. The Sunset Mix is blissful and is destined to be a future Sudbeat classic. Pure gold. The Night Mix expands on the acid line explored in the original and is more of a dubby, heads-down interpretation.

The “Displayed Emotions” and “History Repeating” mixes are available now at Beatport.
