Photos: Flosstradamus Celebrates 4/20 with HDYFST
After the unfortunate rain out of the famed Bob Marley Festival (Austin Reagge Festival) during the weekend, Austin needed something to ring in every stoner's favorite holiday with. Luckily, Flosstradamus had already planned to take over Austin, TX for the first annual HDYFST on this year’s 4/20. Who cared that it was on a Monday this year? The Chicago natives had more than just the holiday to celebrate, with their Soundclash EP coming out and plans to perform two massive weekends at Coachella.
Last month during an interview with Run the Trap, Josh said of their HDYFST event, “We’re massive supporters of cannabis culture as you know. So for us, it’s not only our EP release party but just another chance to do a show in Austin since we’re missing SXSW this year. For the last few years we’ve done our own curated party with our own lineup, so now we’re bringing it down there for HDYFST. Hopefully this is the start of something bigger that we can do every year and maybe even make into a tour one day.” With a stage decked in giant blunts and marijuana plants, HDYNATION is without a doubt hoping for the same thing after the epicness that ensued this past Monday.
With a stacked bill already planned for the inaugural event, Flosstradamus created a wild stir in Austin trap fans by bringing to stage special guests Bro Safari and Crizzly during their hour and a half set time. It was anticipated that the duo would go all out for their special 4/20 event, but what made HDYFST all the more epic was seeing this unexpected collection of bass heavy performers all jamming together on stage. One surprise came after the other, and with that mixed with the already hyped up nature of Floss’ music, the night blew off in a perfectly grimy fashion. Fans jumped to literally every beat, middle fingers up; while the boys speeches led to inevitable giant puffs of smoke lingering above the crowd — especially during the climax of their stoner hit “Roll Up.”
Doors opened for HDYFST at the perfect time of 4:20, with music starting up an hour afterwards. The all-ages show featured Ricky Remedy, NYMZ (of Milo & Otis), Valentino Khan, and of course, Flosstradamus — amongst the other random famous faces that showed up throughout the event. HDYFST was everything we expected and more, and while we still have a year until the second annual HDYFST, surely expected to return, - fans can still get tickets to Flosstradamus’ upcoming HDYNATION Tour starting November 17 in Seattle, WA.
