2011 was a massive year for Afrojack. His collaborations with R3HAB, Shermanology, Dimitri Vegas, Like Mike, Nervo, Quintino, Bobby Burns and more will be revered by this and future generations as the pinnacle of Progressive and Electro House music. His enthusiasm is contagious. His sound is addictive. It’s no wonder everyone wants to work with him from Pitbull to Lady Gaga and that he has landed a residency at XS in Vegas; we are all within this celestial being’s pull.

The Wall family was present on its final tour of 2012 to close out Pacha NYC’s 6th Anniversary celebration. Cell phones were out, and the room was packed, but there was something confoundedly different about the night.  Simply put, NYC and everyone at Pacha NYC was in the best mood ever. I’ve been going out for years, and the pure kindness and love that the club and fans shared was surreal. While we could attribute this to the “holiday spirit”, I am certain that Bobby Burn, R3hab and Afrojack played a role.

With the star in place and everyone in the right mindset, what ensued in the five hours I was in the room blew my mind! Bobby Burns unleashed a barrage of tracks that had the club rocking so hard! It’s the first time I heard Dada Life’s “Kick out the Epic Mother F**ker” (Check out Dada Life on Elektro's hot list!)played live, and the reaction from the crowd was, well, f**king EPIC. Not a single person (including a couple of bouncers) was standing still. Afrojack must’ve been beside himself when he entered the club. NYC, Pacha, his fans were ready for him and ready to leave all inhibition behind.

How a DJ can take trance, house, progressive, electro, techno, hip-hop, garage, R&B and craft a cohesive sound is beyond me. How can a DJ make even a grown man sing “Take Over Control” at the top of his lungs is completely beyond me! My body moved in ways it hasn’t in a long time. I unabashedly worked my way to the middle of the dance floor. I couldn’t help but wonder how the room hadn’t combusted given the amount of energy being exuded. When “No Beef” dropped I literally had to take a minute to compose myself. Not only do I still hear the bass in my head, the floor still feels like it’s moving!

They say, “you don’t chose the beat, the beat chooses you”. Whatever “beat” you prefer, I dare you to see Afrojack live and not getting completely taken control of by this shining stars embrace.
