Bartosz Brenes’s independent record label, 17:44, is known as the home of some of the finest underground imprints including GrooveTraxx, Elektrolicious, dKomps, and ElectricDiscoPussy. One of their latest sub-lables, French Toast, has recently come out with the first edition in what we hope will be a continuing series of track compliations. Featuring the best in 70s and 80s disco and funk as well as some great indie-electronic tracks, French Toast’s Volume 1 showcases 11 favorites by artists such as Solidisco, Geisha Twins, Le Tropical, and Arno Grieco. The opening track, “Turn Around” by Solidisco, sets the retro vibe while later pieces like Arno Grieco’s “2000’s” provide listeners a groovy disco-dance energy. It’s a great illustration of dance music through the ages, all condensed into 11 swinging tracks.
