The Windy City is popping off this weekend!
We snagged a quick word with Wick-It the Instigator before his upcoming show on friday at the concord music hall. Check out the interview below. This man is a bass wizard - do not sleep on his Soundcloud page!

You have some crazy bass heavy yet melodic remixes (ie Holy Grail) – What’s your initial approach to making songs like this?
When it comes to the heavier songs with the big drops, I've always tried to keep them musical as well, so it doesn't just sound like loud noises. That way, it works in a live setting, but it's also something interesting to listen to on your own.

Playing march 21st with Manic Focus at concord music hall… excited to tear up Chi Town?
Absolutely. There's a lot of buzz about this one, I'm expecting a really great night. Looking forward to checking out what everyone's bringin' to the table.

Just released a Beastie Boys x Beatles Mashup – What inspired you to fuze such legendary music?
Usually when I make a mashup, it's a trial and error process, and I try several things until something makes sense musically. With this new project, I wanted it to also make sense conceptually. The Beatles and The Beastie Boys are two groups I've listened to literally my whole life. And both groups had a very similar journey as far as the evolution of their career paths. Both started off making more bubblegum / mainstream / novelty music, but went on to slowly morph into artists that were very creative, experimental, and multidimensional.

Whats on deck for Wick-It?
Well when I'm not traveling and playing shows, I try to hit the studio as much as I can when I'm home. I've always got a million ideas rattling around my brain, but I also hope to release some original material this year, being that most of my work is remix based. I'm also about to release an official ZZ Ward remix that I'm really excited about.

On a less serious note, lets get to know Wick-It...

Favorite headphones and/or piece of DJ equipment?
I have some Beyer Dynamics I really love that I use in the studio. But as far as shows have always gone, I usually use pretty cheap DJ headphones because they are going to be abused and destroyed fairly soon.

Song you’re ashamed to like?
I guess I have a bit of a Taylor Swift/Miley Cyrus problem. I'm not sorry though.

Artist you most want to collaborate with and why?
I'd love to work with Danny Brown. I can't go a day without listening to that fella.

What DJ do you want to Party With?
That Stylust Beats guy seems like he'd be a character.

Siracha, Cholula, Tabasco or Franks?
Whiskey
