For the frequent traveller, noise-cancellation headphones are an essential item. Noise-cancelling technology has come a long way. The essence of the technology is to create a sound wave that emits a sound with the same amplitude but with an inverted phase, also called antinoise. The dynamism of the outside environment presents obvious complications to the technology. There are also the consideration of other factors - comfort, build quality, and portability. The team over at Gizmodo did testing on various headphones to save some time for the consumer.

Coming in first place are the Audio-Technica ATH-ANC9 headphones, which have soft, plush leather pads for comfort. The sound quality is even and detailed. Where the headphones excel is in its noise-cancelling technology, which reportedly works much better than the rest of the bunch, passing Gizmodo’s train test. Purchase for $350.
