What is not to love about a free concert with open bar and state of the art firework show? Last night, EDM fans waited in line along the west side highway in midtown Manhattan with hopes to see Zedd, Duke Dumont, and Tokimonsta for free a Thump and Samsung sponsored concert at Pier 84.

As people entered, they walked under an arch of spotlights that brought attention to the venue through the course of the show. Almost immediately to the right was one of the three bars that offered guests Budweiser, Bud Light, Bud Light Platinum and Smirnoff vodka drinks. Two food trucks also offered some hungry guests a fulfilling option. A nice grass section between the stage and entrance offered concertgoers a place to sit, have a drink and watch as the sun went down over the Hudson River. It felt like a small glimpse of highly anticipated Electric Zoo at the end of this summer.

The custom made circular LED lightup cage/stage was easily seen from the grassy section, to the dance floor, and raised VIP sections. Directly behind it, pyro tecnics stood by as fireworks were being launched all night synchronized to the music

One of the coolest features of the venue was the interactive firework show. Along the railings of the VIP section, Samsung placed acouple of their Galeaxy S4 cell phones which were used to design and control fireworks. Guests were able to choose the color and style of a firework and with the push of a button you could have seen the specific firework launched in seconds.

Tokimosta was the first DJ to perform with a unique sound that varied from heavy bass to smooth sounds to get the night started. The L.A. lady got the crowd ready for more to come. Following Duke Dumont opened with his song Need U (100%) which couldn’t have been more perfect. The British producer and DJ had the crowd dancing to house music before highly anticipated Zedd preformed.

When Zedd came out, the crowd roared once they heard Spectrum belting through the speakers. He managed to play it a second time in the middle of his hour set, although the crowd didn’t seem to mind as they all screamed the well-known songs lyrics. As expected, Zedd also dropped other big hits of his own such as Clarity, Shotgun, The Legend of Zelda and Fall Into the Sky. Zedd also incorporated various beatport top ten Swedish sounds such as Greyhound, Calling and Reload.

Zedd ended 15 minutes early although the firework finale from the Hudson River was a great conclusion for the spectacular night.
