DYSKOGRAF is a neat interactive installation at Avoka in Rennes, France which allows visitors to convert drawings on a paper record into sound. The device itself is a graphical disk drive, created uniquely by each visitor via felt tip pen. Drawings are read by a camera fixed onto the arm, which are then translated into musical sequences by software. We’re not sure how rigid the actual translation process is based on the markings (location, type of felt pen, size), but it certainly is an intriguing way to promote accidental creativity, which is one of the goals of the project.
