One of the common threads among artists in dance music is early exposure to classical music, which provides a solid foundation to transition into the genre. Sam Dorko (also known as DJ T.A.I. – The Asian Invasion; also part of Pastries With Teeth alongside Andrew Hood), based in Phoenix, is one of those artists who also incorporates live elements of classical music into his performances. He recently sat down with Phoenix New Times for an interview.

During the sit-down, Sam discusses the show he coordinated with the Phoenix Contemporary Dance Company, which is ‘a mix of classical violen/strings with a bit of glitch-hop and house influences.’ He incorporates an electric violin into many of his sets, which was used during his performance at Identity last year. Darko also provides his thoughts on the blending of classical and dance music.
