Self-proclaimed “dark pop diva,” Guinevere’s “Ran For My Life” featured a slow-tempo trap beat to match her horror movie-influenced lyrics, before building toward a more up-tempo drop to get the dance floor moving. For the remix, Danish phenom MORTEN took a totally new approach to the song, leaving only a piano line that makes Guinevere’s vocals that much more haunting, before a syncopated kick and snare beat comes in to give it more depth. When the synths emerge to build toward the drop, you can almost anticipate the ground shaking, and once it hits, it does not disappoint. The bass line alone makes this an instant electro house classic, but with the snare hits matching up to follow the rhythm while the four-on-the-floor kick drives the beat, MORTEN has crafted a wholly-original and truly remarkable song that blurs the lines between house, dubstep and trap music. “Ran For My Life” recalls a relationship from hell, but this remix by MORTEN is nothing short of a match made in heaven.
