Interview with AKS (Addicted Kru Sound) – Always Looking for the right balance

What started as two friends playing records in sweaty basements almost ten years ago, evolved into what is now a six-headed electronic band under the name of AKS; short for "Addicted Kru Sound". Check out our interview below.

Where are you guys from? We are from a town called Leuven, Belgium. Yes... Stella Artois was invented here.

How did you all meet? At the bar (obviously).

Where did the name Addicted to Kru Sound come from? Our addiction to music plays a central role in our lives. And as we are a crew of producers, DJ's and musicians...

What made you guys want to create a live show? As a producer it's always nice to play out you music in a DJ set, but we wanted to take it a step further and were looking for better ways to bring our music to the stage. While we were writing music with Selah sue (facebook.com/selahsue) we decided to interpret our tracks live. We literally dragged our studio computer on stage and started experimenting with vst's, synths, guitars etc... After some tryouts AKS live was born.

Who were each of your musical influences growing up? We all have a very different background. But bands like The Roots, The Fugees, Rage Against The Machine, The Prodigy, Congo Natty and many others had a big influence. We could go on for a while here...

What differentiates your live show with other acts? Our approach is somewhat "out of the box". We try to combine electronics with regular instruments like the guitar, saxophone, rhodes etc... We're always looking for that right balance between both.

How would you describe your style? The Fugees on XTC.

What other artists in any genre would you like to work with? Damn that would be a list of about a 1000 artist... so many talented people in the world. Hmmm lemme think...MIA, Stephen Marley, James Blake, Netsky, Lauryn Hill, Noisia, Hudmo, Para One...

Favorite candy / snack? El ron de cuba

What do you drive? VW golf and a Ford Transit. Keeps us down to earth

Favorite Sneakers? Cheap white ones

Favorite cartoon or video game character? Peter Griffin

Can't leave home without? Clothes

Most embarrassing performance moment as a group? Using autotune (whut?) in a song in the wrong key. Thats a lot of mistakes for one song...

What can we expect from you for the rest of 2012? Our EP "Out Of Control" is dropping on may 21st worldwide! This EP features 5 tracks wherefrom one live recording.

We'll be writing and performing throughout the summer with a lot of talented musicians and vocalists. We are releasing at least two singles this year: "Round & Round" on the 21st of may and a second one in september... and we'll waste a lot of weekend this year, that's for sure!
