We were impressed with his remix of Skrillex and Damian Marley’s track, “Make It Bum Dem,” but this new release by Pittsburgh-based DJ and producer Comic Strips blew us out of the water. The track opens with warped dialogue and haunting piano melodies then falls away into an unexpected series of heavy wobbles and drops. The bass catches you unawares, as do the periodic breaks where the soulful vocals from DJ Shadow’s “Blood On the Motorway,” shine through light a break in storm clouds. At times mellow and at times aggressive, its one of the more striking dub step tracks we’ve heard all year.
