Arty at the MID February 9th Review
The Mid was at capacity by 12:30 as non ticket holders tried to pay a cover to a sold out show brought to you by React Presents. Arty was scheduled to hit the decks at 1:30 as fans eagerly awaited the appearance of this up and coming Russian star. Chants of “Arty, Arty, Arty” filled the club as the opening DJ, Eric K, winded down his set. With the crowd already hyped and energized the man everyone came to see appeared on stage with CO2 blasts making the crowd get even wilder. The trance family was out in full force on the night of February 9th that’s for sure.
Everyone knew what kind of night it was going to be when Arty dropped Above and Beyond’s massive hit “thing called love,” hands were forming hearts and the whole club was singing along to the melodic lyrics. Arty was thriving off the energy of the crowd, raising his hands and lowering the sound to have the out of tuned voices of the crowd be heard. After playing some original mixes “Trio” and “Mozart,” Arty played the popular Porter Robinson track “Language” and even some REM to spice up his set list. This was turning out to be a magical set as confetti was dropped from the rafters not once, or twice, but three times throughout the evening.
There was definitely something in the air as trance isn’t represented much in Chicago, so having Arty here was truly a treat. Just as he played Above and Beyond earlier in his set, he closed with Above and Beyond. Once again everyone chimed in to belt out the lyrics to “Sun and the moon,” truly a site to see. His set ranging from trance to progressive house, Arty kept the club dancing until 4 am. Hopefully with festival season around the corner we will get to see this amazing young talent once again!
