To say that Thomas Gold has had a stellar year is a massive understatement. He has become one of house music’s most wanted DJs, and for good reason. The passion and effort he puts into his music is more than evident in his #1 singles, and the love he has for his fans can be felt by anyone who’s ever seen him play, whether at a small club or huge festival. Elektro caught up with the unstoppable artist during EDC NYC and learned more about what goes into the Thomas Gold experience and his new compilation mix CD on Axtone Records, released today exclusively on iTunes.

Stay tuned for a full feature with Gold in Issue 2 of Elektro Magazine, coming soon. But, for now enjoy this Q&A from when Elektro caught up with the DJ/producer at EDC NY...

How does it feel to be back in NY?
I’m a fan of the NY crowd. It’s my favorite crowd and, there’s so much love, so much excitement, and every time I come here it’s amazing. There’s so much feedback and energy, online and also when I play; for example today, I really could connect with the crowd.

How did you prepare for your set?
Even today, I was really excited and nervous. I prepped myself for the last two weeks, every single track I played today, I prepared it; editing stuff, and mashing-up tracks, because I wanted to play something really special. I love to be in the studio, on the plane, wherever I am, in the airport, just playing around with tracks and vocals and acapellas. I’m a big fan of edits and mashups.  You can hear it.”

What can you tell us about your new CD?
2 CDs, 33 tracks, and the exciting thing to me is that its a real Thomas Gold showcase album, rather than just just a compilation. They let me put my tracks in and they let me re-work some of my favorite tracks. I mashed-up ‘Sing2Me’ and ‘Alright’ by Red Carpet, and re-worked ‘Teenage Crime’ by Adrian Lux – one of my favorite tracks on the album. There are also exclusive Thomas Gold songs, like my new singles. Even the transitions between tracks on a mix CD are really special. I put a lot of effort into that. It’s really a Thomas Gold album.

What inspired the new singles on the album?
“Fanfare" was inspired a lot by these marching drum groups with all the snares and drums they use. I wanted to create a real festival track with a kind of "fanfare" melody. "Circles" just happened when I was working on new ideas whilst I was in the studio. And "The Beginning" was made initially as an opening track for my DJ sets during Miami Music Week 2012, but as I saw it went down well, and I turned it into a complete track.”

Will we be seeing more production during your shows?
Yes, actually we are working on some exciting new ideas for my shows and I can't wait to reveal them!

What the one message you would like to send out to all your fans?
Thanks to all you guys out there! For your excitement and for all your love, during my sets and for my music! There is nothing better than this!
