Converting your dance movements into sustainable energy almost sounds like a science fiction innovation, essentially a win-win for yourself (having a fun time) and the environment. Sustainable Dance Club (SDC) has developed a prototype of just that. SDC started out as an idea in 2005, with the goal of bringing sustainability to dance clubs via creative and engaging means. The most practical of these ideas is the Sustainable Dance Floor (SDF), which harnesses the energy of dance movements into electricity. The interlocking tiles compress 10mm when stepped on, activating an internal generator that produces up to 35 Watts of output. The floor itself is pretty scalable, providing options for different sizes, shapes, and designs, and interaction with the dancer (e.g. different visuals based on the vigor of the dance movements).
