The future: sound emissions from the mind

Advancements in technology have been a boon towards the growth of electronic music. One of the pioneers who has created various technologies to enable newer sounds is Vince De Franco, a physics and electrical engineering graduate from UCLA. One of his creations is the Mandala Drum, devised based on a request from the band Tool. The device incorporates membrane sensor technology that allows more than 16,000 individual triggers based on the velocity and zone that is struck.

Vince is now predicting what he's seeing in the tech sphere which is a technology that allows the mind to emit sounds. The idea itself isn’t as far-fetched as it sounds. There have been recent technologies that allow rudimentary control of robotics. As Vince explains it, mathematics plays an integral role in breaking down signals, essentially translating a component into a language which can then be manipulated to produce fascinating results. Similarly, human brainwaves can be processed to output music. Although still in its conceptual phase, the project has limitless potential given the individuality of each person. The idea of a cloud of personal sounds promising to us. It would, however, be helpful to have a mute function to tune-out the unappealing sounds of certain individuals.
