Last week Derek Smith, better known to you as the innovative Pretty Lights, took a break from his weekly Sirius XM show 'The HOT Shit' to swim around in the Electric Aquarium alongside an intimate group of lucky fans. The Colorado DJ/producer threw down an incredible hour long set in celebration of the same-day release of his new album, 'A Color Map of the Sun,' an amazing collection of jazz-, dub-, rock-, soul-, and electronic-inspired sounds that come together to create the distinctively Pretty Lights experience for listeners. Pretty Lights was incredibly anxious to share his excitement for his long-waited release with his fans, giving nothing but smiles and fist bumps to nearly all fans from across the decks. He played out nearly the entire album, including standout tracks like his Talib Kweli-assisted “Around the Block," the melancholic “Go Down Sunshine," and the stunning ode to his girlfriend “Yellowbird." The set was filled out perfectly by selections like Smith’s amazing remix of Nina Simone’s classic “I Put a Spell on You," his dub-infested rework of Nas’ classic “N.Y. State of Mind," and his killer “Total Fascination." The entire set had everyone going nuts inside the offices of Sirius XM, leaving Pretty Lights to ask for some “NYC Diesel” to cool off from the electrifying experience. And you can’t blame him either; the talented DJ was able to transform an office into a full on party, dim lights and all.
