elektro exclusive interview with Climbers
Relatively new to the scene, we had the chance to talk to Mexicali pair, Climbers. Jay Blakk and Kiko Deal were initially high school pals that began collaborating only one year ago and are already creating a buzz in the industry getting recognition from players such as Pete Tong. With these boys not sticking to any one genre, these two are the perfect balance of professional and funny. With their summer tour over, as promised they would spend time in the studio making orginial mixes such as It’s All I Need which already on beatport as of a month ago. Be sure to check out their Soundcloud because they’ve also released an hour-long groovy mix just two days ago. Listen to it below.
Here’s what they had to say:
Did you have any musical background before electronic music? Can you play any instruments?
Kiko Deal: Yeah, I played several instruments when I was a young kid and fell in love with both guitar and bass; but also like to play the piano and drums.
Jay Blakk: Not really, for me it was more about programming and video games but I can play the computer, lol.
If you weren’t making music what would you be doing?
Jay Blakk: Even though I am a lawyer, I’d love to learn Psychology.
Kiko Deal: I’d be making music with trashcans on the street.
How was your first UK/European tour?
Jay Blakk: It has been over a year since our first one, but we learn that in life you can only expect the unexpected. Keep strong and be grateful for your job!
Do you get nervous before going on?
Jay Blakk: Always do every time and I love it, because I get to drink a beer or two to keep me calm and go on.
Kiko Deal: Same here, I love it because you feel the energy and how people look at you and supporting you for the night to be unforgettable.
