DJ Snake and Calvin Harris Take Home 2015 Billboard Music Awards
It's become the mantra for millennials everywhere — "Turn Down For What." DJ Snake's 2014 hit with Lil Jon has not only become an anthem of the EDM world, but music in general, and it's domination of the airwaves is still being felt today, as DJ Snake just nabbed the Top Dance/Electronic Song at the Billboard Music Awards. The single from DJ Snake and Lil Jon beat out the competing singles from Clean Bandit and Jess Glyne, "Rather Be" (which grabbed the 2015 Grammy for Best Dance Recording), Disclosure's hit with Sam Smith, "Latch," Ariana Grande's Zedd-produced track "Break Free" and Taylor Swift's new significant other Calvin Harris' "Summer." The track was released on Columbia/Sony and is available on Beatport.
Speaking of Calvin Harris, he took home the Top Dance/Electronic Artists Billboard Music Award. Harris is still riding the wave of the release of his major 2014 album, Motion, which contained collaborations with fellow producers including R3hab, Alesso, Ummet Ozcan and Firebeatz, as well as pop stars Ellie Goulding, Haim, Gwen Stefani, John Newman and Tinashe and hip-hop artist Big Sean. Currently holding the status as the highest grossing artist in the electronic dance music world, Calvin Harris has established himself as one of, if not, the leading name in the genre.
In other EDM news from the 2015 Billboard Music Awards, Lindsey Stirling surprisingly won the category for Top Dance/Electronic Album, besting Avicii's True, Disclosure's Settle, Calvin Harris' Motion and Skrillex's Recess.
