Taking over NYC on Thursday with a dazzling performance with Major Lazer on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, followed by an impromptu signing at the Major Lazer pop up store at Miss Lily’s on Houston St, Diplo finally arrived at The Circle Nightclub in Times Square. Leaving the suit and tie at home, he arrived on the decks to a brimming crowd inside the swanky nightclub around 2am. With “DIPLO” in flashing lights on the booth, he began his hour-long set.

After asking the crowd if they’re “ready to party all night long” he opened the night with the Gents and Jawns remix of his track “Express Yourself” mashed up with Gangam Style. Utilizing his typical method of mixing dance music, hip-hop, reggae, and everything else you could think of, he successfully roused the crowd to get free and twerk into the early morning hours. Lazers up, and “bustin' shots” in the air during the “Original Don,” Diplo gave no indication that those hiccups bothering him (“About to dj in korean town but I got the worst hiccups some one scare me”) were any issue.

NYC had been counting down the days until Diplo would return after he landed in his Helicopter for a 3:30am performance on his Trap Hawk Down Tour back in January. As to be expected with the dynamic producer, he gave 110% and reminded us why he is the most in demand DJ on the planet. With the new Major Lazer album dropping April 16th, and undoubtedly, an astronomical number of singles and collaborations that seem to be a constant flow for the producer, Diplo will be touring and popping up everywhere throughout the summer. For those of us in the NYC area, the next (scheduled) appearance of Diplo in our area is at Electric Zoo in August, but don’t be surprised if he decides to drop in before that. The rate at which this producer moves is astonishing, but here’s hoping he doesn’t have plans of slowing down anytime soon.
