Catching Up w/ DJ Spooky: Ai Wei Wei Benefit, SyFy Appearance, Origin Magazine

It may have been awhile since we last heard from DJ Spooky, but after seeing his latest projects, we can totally understand why.

The DC-based DJ has been keeping himself quite busy lately, first with a performance at the White Box Spring Benefit in New York, where Chinese contemporary artist Ai Wei Wei will be honored with the first Richard J. Massey Foundation/White Box Arts and Humanity Award. Check out a live webcast of the event on April 25 from 6 to 10 p.m. on the DJ Spooky Facebook page.

You can also check out DJ Spooky, né Paul D. Miller, on the SYFY channel where they have set up a series of “infotainment” short videos about the music he produced based on his trip to Antarctica. And lastly, there is no doubt that Miller’s talents not only lie in music but in writing as well. With articles featured in The Village Voice, Artforum, and Paper Magazine as well as authoring his own book, it only natural that the next step for the artist would be editorial work at a magazine. Serving as the Cultural Editor at Origin Magazine, Miller shares his experiences in the latest eco-promoting project, with the current issue focusing on the Vanuatu Pacifica Project in Southeast Asia.
