Beats to release business traveler headphones
It’s an interesting time for the headphone industry, which over the past few years has seen the entry of a handful of upstarts and various partnerships between musicians and firms. Dr. Dre backed Beats appears to be positioning itself to not only serve as a one-stop shop (recently acquiring music streaming service MOG) but expanding its market share outside of the younger generation.
The firm plans on a mid-October release for the Executive over-the-ear headphones, which targets an older demographic, the business traveler. Techcrunch got a hold of the headphones and reviewed them. As expected, they come priced at a premium ($300). Being for the traveler, the headphones are comfortable. However, the sound quality doesn’t appear to be up-to-par for the price range, reportedly being a bit muddled when volume is low and fuzzy when cranked up. The biggest peeve has been the use of regular AAA batteries with no option to plug in direct when the batteries die.
