On Thursday, December 27th, I returned to Pier 94 in NYC for the first time since an intense weekend there for "Pier Of Fear," back in late October (http://www.elektrodaily.com/news/2012/11/pier-of-fear-recap-a-weekend-of-beats-tricks-and-treats/). Walking into the pier brought back all of the memories from that Halloween-themed celebration of EDM. Exactly two months after leaving the "Pier Of Fear," I returned for #AOKIFY NYC, Steve Aoki's headlining event at the pier, alongside opening acts Benny Benassi and NERVO.

Upon arrival, the Aussie-twins of NERVO had already taken the stage, bringing with them an arsenal of uplifting house and energetic electro sounds. The duo was getting the party started off right, breaking out the EDM fan-favorite "Molly" by Cedric Gervais, and newly-established crowd-pleaser "Every Day" by Eric Prydz. The only thing more beautiful than the NERVO girls themselves, was their remix of Zedd's "Fall Into The Sky," which supplied melodic builds and heavy drops that put the #AOKIFY NYC party at the pier in full-swing, and prepped the crowd accordingly for the following act; the one and only, Benny Benassi.

It goes without saying, Benny Benassi is a legend in the EDM world, and one who has remained at the forefront of the EDM movement. Nearly a decade after releasing his popular breakout track and electro-house anthem, "Satisfaction," Benny is still as relevant as he ever was, and would show why with his set at #AOKIFY NYC. Benny came equipped with a range of EDM crowd-movers of both old and new. Much to the crowd's approval, Benassi would follow up his own track "Cinema" with Skrillex's remix of the track. Benny also brought out his collaboration with Pink Is Punk, "Perfect World," as well as Wolfgang Gartner's "Love & War," Max Vangelli & AN21's "H8rs" with Steve Angello, and surprisingly, Kill The Noise's "Rockers." However, Benny wasn't done with the twists, as the set's defining moment came when he dropped the R.L. Grime trap remix of "Satisfaction." The entire crowd rocked to the head-nodding beat of R.L. Grime's remix. That moment put the bow on the top of an amazing set that supplied a variety of sounds, and affirmed that Benny Benassi is still a master of moving crowds.

Following Benny was the night's main attraction; the man himself, Steve Aoki, who came ready to #AOKIFY Pier 94. Opening with the first track on his newest EP, "Singularity," Aoki quickly got to bringing the hard-hitting electro-house tracks we've come to expect from him. Zedd's "Shotgun," a remix of Refused's "New Noise," and his collaboration with fellow party-starters Knife Party, "Piledriver." Not to be left out were the Aoki classics, including his track with Tiesto, "Tornado," "Steve Jobs" and "Beat Down" with Angger Dimas, and don't forget about "Turbulence," which provided for the night's climax. Anyone who has been a part of Aoki's live performances will attest to the ultimate party atmosphere his shows provide. Tonight would be no exception, as Aoki continued his beloved traditions of cake throws and infamous raft rides for both himself and a couple lucky fans. #AOKIFY NYC accomplished what everyone anticipated it would in supplying one of the most fun atmospheres EDM shows have to offer. Each performer came ready with sets that had the Pier 94 crowd rocking all night. For EDM fans in the NYC area, Pier 94 is a venue that you must attend, as it continues to bring an a-list of EDM all-stars and top-notch visual experiences together.
