From the “the orange desert glow of Scottsdale, Arizona,” to the clubs of Southern California where the crowds “are among the most vocal and enthusiastic anywhere in the world,” leading UK trance trio Above & Beyond are midway through an extensive tour of the US, leaving a trail of packed, sweaty parties and laser-kissed punters behind them, and leaving evidence for all to see on their ‘A&B US Tour Blog’.

Beginning in Las Vegas at Lavo on a Tuesday night (and returning the following Saturday for a much bigger show at Marquee Club in the Cosmopolitan Hotel), Above & Beyond’s Jono Grant, Tony McGuinness, and Paavo Siljamäki have confirmed all the talk of Vegas as a key clubbing destination is true. “EDM has really taken a hold in Las Vegas and most of the top DJs have residencies there now, pulling in big crowds of high rollers. We’re like the new Elvis,” A&B claimed on their blog.

“It’s a well known fact that in the casinos and bars of Las Vegas you can’t tell whether it is day or night, and as we made our debut at Lava on a Tuesday night it struck me you wouldn’t know what day it was, either: it felt like Friday, Friday, Friday!”

One of the other memorable locations on their tour has been Boston, where the trio saw further evidence of dance breaking through big time in the US. “For some reason, after 12 years of being in Above & Beyond and playing Boston half a dozen times, the penny seems to have dropped,” A&B said on their blog. “They turned out in force... The whole crowd was so emotionally involved in the show, there were tears flowing left and right and a great energy in the room.”

Above & Beyond are touring on the back of their Anjunabeats Vol. 9 compilation, the latest annual showcase of the trio’s leading record label of the same name, with the double-CD mix hailed by Australian dance music site inthemix.com.au as “hands down the best trance compilation of the past year.”
