“A Color Map Of The Sun” is the title that Derek Vincent A.K.A Pretty Lights, came up with, just outside of his Denver studio. This documentary feature, produced by Derek’s girlfriend and presented by Thump, bares the passionate journey of Pretty Lights in the making of this album. The 31 year old DJ/producer explains how his vision of encapsulating a myriad of genres drove him to travel to various parts of the country, to seek out inspirational pieces of music. He goes on to add that recording alongside a large number of musicians and vocalist in real time posed a great challenge, but ultimately served as a once in a life-time learning experience. His mission to defy music boundaries and uncover old school flavors of Jazz, Blues and Soul in the modern age is beautifully documented in this video. It talks about everything that makes this Pretty Lights album unique. From making his personal vinyl sample collection from scratch, to patiently assembling modular hardware synthesizers to generate sounds from, the new Pretty Lights album is all about the attention to details and one that brings new meanings to the production of modern music.
