Fashion and music have always been inextricably linked. As music trends undulate in and out, so do fashion trends, and the two are often aligned. See the punk and grunge movement in the 1970s and 1980s, and the effect of rave culture on fashion and streetwear today. Beatport pinpointed their top memorable collaborations between fashion and electronic music in particular. Alexander Wang has always been inspired by musicians, having collaborated with Azealia Banks and Die Antwoord in past campaigns. His most recent muse is superstar DJ and producer Diplo, who he chose to star in his fall 2012 campaign. In 2004, Producer Matthew Stone collaborated with Gareth Pugh to create the !WOWOWOW! collective of designers, writers, and musicians who threw parties in Southeast London. The two have similar sensibilities which compliment one another perfectly. Sometimes, a preestablished designer can help put a budding artist on the map: see Dazed Digital, a fashion and music magazine who put out a video with the xx in early 2010. Trendsetting designers rag + bone collaborated with Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke for their Spring 2012 runway presentation in New York. When two successful names get together it helps fans of each cross over into new territory. Beatport chose Alexander McQueen's collaboration with Bjork as their number one favorite crossover. The two collaborated in multiple outlets, the most notable of which was the McQueen-directed video for Bjork's "Alarm Call" in 1998. Check out Beatport's full list HERE!
