I fell in love with Purity Ring's debut album 'Shrines' upon first listen. Frankly, it is both beautiful and brilliant, and feels like anything but a first LP. With vivid and ominous lyrics, ("cut open my sternum and pull/my little ribs around you"), the evocative and sophisticated LP draws the listener in with ethereal, trembling synths, and the soothing vocals of Megan James – often blurring the lines between electro pop, indietronic, hip hop and even a tinge of dubstep. The record's eleven tracks are currently streaming on NPR, while the album is officially out next Tuesday, July 24th via 4AD. Listen to 'Shrines' here.
