OWSLA Takes Over TomorrowWorld
Sunday saw the conclusion of the 2nd annual TomorrowWorld festival in Chattahoochee Hills, Georgia. After a wildly successful inaugural event in 2013, the festival kicked things up by bringing one of the most heavy-hitting lineups of any event this Summer. The main stage, which came in the form of a mesmerizing fireworks-spewing volcano, hosted the names of the biggest artists in the EDM world, including Tiesto, Zedd, Kaskade, Martin Garrix and more. However, it was fellow main stage attraction Skrillex and his label mates at OWSLA that stole the show.
The OWSLA takeover began early Saturday when label-newcomer Mija (who you'll probably remember from her surprise b2b set with Skrillex at Bonnarroo), who performed on the Black Butter Records Stage for 2 hours. Since her initiation, her tracks (most notably her forthcoming release on the label, "Crank It") have become an integral piece of Skrillex's set, as well as a frequent opener for the renowned superstar. Her set showed why she has attracted the attention of the label captain, listen to it below.
Across the ground of the festival, the OWSLA-curated stage was already underway with HEARTSREVOUTION and Parisian duo Alesia kicking things off, before Valentino Khan took over for a hard-hitting set. Even early on in the day, the stage was bubbling with enthusiastic fans.
"It was an awesome time. The crowd was really receptive and was jumping around like crazy," said Valentino. "We did a meet & greet after and talking to a lotta people that traveled from multiple states away to come see the performance is always mind blowing."
Following was David Heartbreak, who told us TomorrowWorld was the best festival experience he has had this year. "TomorrowWorld was special this year because I had the chance to meet a lot of my fans that live in Europe," said David. "That was big to me, having the chance to interact with fans that I don't normally get a chance to. I even went to DreamVille after my set for a little just to hang and meet people."
He also spoke on the festival's incredible production, explaining "The stages were amazing, my fitted almost caught on fire twice... the pyro game was serious." In other words, the OWSLA stage was on fire on Saturday (both literally and figuratively).
Also featured on the stacked OWSLA stage was Yogi, one of the label's newest powerhouses, responsible for bangers like "Burial" with Pusha T (which just hit a million plays on their Soundcloud), and "Christian Bale." We spoke to Yogi after his high-energy set.
"I loved it," he said, "Coming here and performing on the OWSLA stage was a blessing." Yogi also sang the praise of the revolutionary label that have pushed him into the spotlight of not only the EDM world, but the hip-hop world as well, landing him his collaboration with King Push, signing by Dr. Dre, and remix of Schoolboy Q's "Hell of a Night."
“I love OWSLA, they’re forward-thinking,” says Yogi, "they understand what I want to achieve. So working with people that are on the same page as you just makes it that much easier to achieve your goal.”
We also spoke to Yogi about the forthcoming Skrillex remix of his anthem "Burial," which he described with one word; "Dope." Fans should certainly be excited for this one, so stay tuned for the remix dropping soon.
The madness continued with energetic sets from Milo & Otis and Jack Beats, two OWSLA duos that have certainly become fan-favorites in the scene.
The focus switched over to the massive main stage, where the label boss himself, Skrillex, took over, bringing the kind of energy he has become notorious for. His set came complete with his classics, as well as a flurry of new music.
After a wild Saturday of the festival dominated by OWSLA, they weren't finished. On Sunday, the label's young guns brought the festival to a close, proving that the future is indeed bright with artists like Snails and MUST DIE!, both of whom put on incredible performances during the TomorrowWorld finale.
Even amongst EDM powerhouses like Dim Mak Records and Mad Decent, both who delivered on great label showcases during the festival, OWSLA truly set themselves apart with their next-level performances. With their wide-range of sounds and visionary artists, they are the future of bass music and the electronic scene.
During our conversation with Valentino Khan, he expressed his excitement of being part of the OWSLA team; "They genuinely believe in me as an artist, and I have the room to make whatever I want. It's a great fit with my philosophy of always staying versatile. And they're all great guys too. It's really easy to get along with everyone but at the same time they're very focused and we all work together to map out a plan for the music. It's been a great relationship."
