French house artist, Kavinksy, approaches his music with the motto “quality over quantity.” Releasing his first body of work since his 2008 EP, “Blazer,” Kavinsky has finally returned with the brilliant full-length album “Outrun.” Proving the wait was well worth it, “Outrun” is a synth heavy record that sounds like a hybrid of 80s new wave and French electro-house. Stand out tracks like “Protovision,” “Suburbia,” and “Blizzard” are perfect examples of the unique sound of Kavinsky that is unlike anyone else coming out of the French house scene. “Outrun” also features breakout track “Nightcall,” that found its way to mainstream prominence after being featured in the film “Drive” in 2011. Overall, “Outrun” is a radiant collection of tracks that solidifies Kavinsky’s innovative approach that combines influences from the true beginnings of house and culminates into a notably futuristic sound.
