One of the largest markets in EDM, New York City seems to be feeling the pressure of overpriced tickets. It seems that shows with ridiculously high ticket prices are continually being forced to lower their ticket prices and/or move to smaller venues. The latest example of this issue involves one of electronic dance music’s most influential, vocal and simply biggest stars; Deadmau5. His New Year’s Eve show at the Nassau Coliseum recently had its ticket prices lowered. We can only speculate that this is due to the previous lack of ticket sales.

Deadmau5’s New Year’s Eve show isn’t the only event that has experienced woes lately in the New York metropolitan area. Winter Galactic, a New Year’s Eve celebration headlined by the likes of Dada Life, Porter Robinson and more, recently moved from the 20,000 person capacity Izod Center in East Rutherford, NJ to the 2,000 person capacity Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. Clearly, issues with ticket sales are at the root of this move, cutting the shows capacity by 18,000 people.

With New York City being one of the more dominant markets in the industry the rise of issues with ticket prices and lack of ticket sales are becoming more and more disconcerting. Who is to blame for this issue? Is this a widespread situation or just concentrated in the greater NYC area? Let us know what you think.
