They are known as EDM pilgrimages, redefining the concert experience with its pyrotechnic spectacle and high-profile line up that include Armin van Buuren, Steve Angello and Avicii. Such festivals as the Electric Daisy Carnival and Coachella have begun in essence the ultimate mega dance party, and it’s all thanks to one company and its CEO.

Pasquale Rotella, Insomniac’s CEO, has been responsible for overseeing many of the music festivals we would sell our first born to see, since 1993. Huffington Post got an in-depth look at the pied piper of our generation to reveal many of the trials of tributes of his trade.

“We’ve been at the forefront of a lot of challenges that dance music has faced a whole,” Rotella told Huffington. “Just like jazz and rock and roll and hip-hop had their struggles, dance music has its challenges. And we’ve been right there as the front line – investing a lot of time and money to try to get things to point where it’s easier for people who are jumping in.”

One of the issues EDM is constantly dealing is the accusation of an association with drug use and other risky behaviors, but Rotella addresses this as well:

“We feel as though we are the safest festivals out there. Whenever anything tragic happens, whether it’s at the festival or even hours after the festival and the attendee just came to the show, it’s always suddenly about the genre of the music and about the style of the event.”

Huffington Post also goes into Rotella’s personal life, discussing his relationship with former The Girls Next Door star Holly Madison and his interests in old-school techno.
