elektro exclusive interview w/ Norin & Rad

Tell us a little bit about how you guys first linked up?

(Nick) We actually met at a festival through a bunch of mutual friends. I had a friend who knew his friend literally, so our whole groups came together. After the festival we all hung out a couple more times and then him and I came up with the idea, “hey you want to make music, so do I.” I kind of already knew how to DJ and [Bruce] was already trying his hand at producing so we just thought “let’s put our heads together and see what we can do.” And the first track we did was “The Gift.”

What would you say is your biggest musical influence?

From the get-go, when I literally first got into this whole thing it was Above & Beyond, and I am not just saying that. Before then I was already influenced by everything else, so I used to be into Hardcore music and everything and then we started getting into Flying Lotus and J. Dilla and all of those guys and then everything sort of came together in trying to create this new sound that we are trying to do

We noticed you guys have branched out quite a bit from your original roots (Trance) in making music. What sparked this change?

Basically, we are really into Glitch Hop and Koan Sound and like we said FlyLo (Flying Lotus). So we are always trying to incorporate what we hear and what we enjoy into our music because if, you know we enjoy it, we want to project that to our fans and hopefully they will enjoy it too. And obviously, at the same time we are artists, so we are always trying to create art and trying to be different so you know him and I are always thinking “what genre can we come up with today.” Because we can just cross-pollinate so many different things and it is a lot of fun too.

Is there anything you can tell us about your track on Anjunabeats 10?

It is called “Aldo.” We did this track really hoping to just bring back that vibe like when we did “Bloom” and “The Gift” where it’s really big Trance leads and things like that. I know our fans have been dying to hear another “Bloom” so essentially this is us trying to re-create that feel along with our new vibe. We definitely want our fans to know that we are not changing our sound, we are just trying different ones while we're still doing what they fell in love with us for.

You mentioned A&B before, but is there any dream collaboration that the two of you have?

We have always had the dream to collab with Daft Punk. That is everyone’s dream right? It would also definitely be dope to do one with M83. It would just be so out of this world. They're both in two different genres from us and you know, I think that would just be really cool.

What can we expect from you guys in 2013?

We are banking on the album, for sure. We have already started on it and were trying to push it to be finished by the end of the year. Hopefully we can get it done before then. We also have two Glitch Hop tunes. One is already completed and finished and the other one is in the works and we are trying to get a vocal on. So, we are hoping to also put out a 2 track EP on a different label that will be Glitch Hop infused and so we will see what happens with that!
