After months of voicing his dissatisfaction with Ultra Records, Deadmau5's contract with the major electronic music label expired. Since the contract's expiration, one of the world's most sought after electronic acts has been posting slews of music online. Now Deadmau5 has announced he will be joining one of electronic music's most iconic labels, Astralwerks. This extremely high-profile label move will see not only Deadmau5 himself moving to Astralwerks but his label, Mau5trap, as well. “So, it’s now official… Yep, we’ve teamed up with our friends at Astralwerks! It’s done, and this shit is happening! Big plans are in motion people. BIG,” says Deadmau5 on signing to the label.

Along with his move to Astralwerks comes the announcement of a new compilation album. The album will be titled "We Are Friends Vol. 2" and will include works from Deadmau5, BSOD, Kairo Kingdom, James Njie and more. Pre-sale for the album begins October 22 with the release coming November 12. Astralwerks is elated to have Deadmau5 join their label. Their general manager Glenn Mendlinger said in a statement that “Joel is an absolute trail blazer, pushing the boundaries of electronic music, production, and the live experience to places unimaginable without his vision and contribution. This is an exciting moment, but it’s only the beginning. Watch this space…”
