For the frequent traveller, noise-cancellation headphones are an essential item. Noise-cancelling technology has come a long way. The essence of the technology is to create a sound wave that emits a sound with the same amplitude but with an inverted phase, also called antinoise. The dynamism of the outside environment presents obvious complications to the technology. There are also the consideration of other factors - comfort, build quality, and portability. The team over at Gizmodo did testing on various headphones to save some time for the consumer.

Coming in third place are the AKG K 495 NC headphones, whose design fits directly on your ears as opposed to cupping around. Gizmodo recommends them for the city dweller, given its light weight and tough build. The sound quality is detailed and clear, to the detriment of the noise-cancelling feature however. Purchase for $350.
